TAKE ACTION NOW: Oppose New Taxes and Regulations on Warehouses in SoCal

AIR CRE is partnering with NAIOP, to alert the CRE community about new taxes and regulations on SoCal warehouses that have been proposed by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) Board of Governors. We are asking AIR CRE members, as well as warehouse operators, to communicate directly to SCAQMD Board members to oppose this tax.

The regulation proposed by SCAQMD would target approximately 3,000 warehouse properties, by requiring operators with more than 100,000 sf of space used for warehousing purposes, to reduce truck emissions by taking limited actions that are not feasible or realistic, or pay a “mitigation fee.”

Initially, this rule will cost warehouse operators nearly $1 per sf, every single year, with NO SUNSET DATE. Annual increases are expected thereafter with no limit on this new endless tax. Warehouse operators would be required to track and report all truck trips and the rule imposes costly, duplicative requirements on top of California Air Resources Board’s already stringent rules.

Take Action NOW!

NAIOP SoCal has launched a new digital platform that allows you to customize a message and communicate directly to all 13 members of the SCAQMD Board of Governors. We encourage you to voice your concerns repeatedly in the weeks prior to the May 7, 2021 vote.

We also encourage you to reach out to your locally elected city council and mayor – many of whom have no idea of this proposed tax on businesses in their communities. Please be sure to customize your message on the impact the new tax would have on your business, jobs and consumers.

We need your help to make the voices of the collective CRE community heard. When the industry comes together, we can have a powerful voice.
